Joel Smith

Joel Smith received a Ph.D. from Princeton in 2000. He is the author of Edward Steichen: The Early Years (1999), Saul Steinberg: Illuminations (2006), and The Life and Death of Buildings: On Photography and Time (2011). Since 2006 he has curated over a dozen exhibitions at Princeton, including Pictures of Pictures, Emmet Gowin: A Collective Portrait, More than One: Photographs in Sequence, and Beloved Daughters: Photographs by Fazal Sheikh. His exhibition projects in 2012 include Root & Branch, exploring trees and tree forms in art, nature, and information design.
