Join us for an insider’s view of Frank Stella’s working processes as one of the most innovative printmakers of the contemporary era. A screening of the documentary short Frank Stella: Imaginary Places takes viewers into the workshop, the conversations and the creativity that fueled the thirty-five-year collaboration between master printer Ken Tyler and acclaimed abstract artist Frank Stella that was once dubbed as “part brinkmanship, engineering, and sometimes theater.”

Following the film, Spencer Tomkins, studio assistant to Frank Stella during the decades in which he built a printmaking studio in his home, will join the exhibition’s co-curators for a conversation of the experience of creating prints in the studio in contrast to in the workshop of Ken Tyler. A reception in the Museum will follow.
