The Museum will observe World AIDS Awareness Week (December 1–5) with a screening of Derek Jarman’s Blue (1993, 79 minutes). This haunting, visually lyrical film tells the story of the English filmmaker’s terminal struggle with AIDS and was made after he had experienced substantial loss of vision.

Against a plain, unchanging blue screen, a densely interwoven soundtrack of voices, sound effects and music attempt to convey a portrait of Derek Jarman's experiences with AIDS, both literally and allegorically, together with an exploration of the meanings associated with the colour blue. Originally released just four months before Jarman’s death, the work is the artist’s last testament.
