WPRB and the Princeton Film Society will screen Downtown 81, an urban fairy tale set in pre-Giuliani New York. Basquiat plays the role of an artist who can't make rent, and the then-contemporary no wave Punk scene provides the soundtrack to the film. Katherine Bussard, Peter C. Bunnell Curator of Photography at the Art Museum, and Aaron Shkuda, project manager at the Princeton-Mellon Initiative, will contextualize the film and lead discussions on the city and the struggling artist.
