Over the last four decades, the untethering of photography from traditional mechanical and chemical processes, the technical capacity to print at very large scale, and the ubiquity of editing software have inspired artists to challenge how we regard the veracity of the medium. Drawn from a remarkable private collection of more than 350 large-format color photographs, this exhibition features work by artists including Candida Höfer, Vera Lutter, Vik Muniz, Thomas Ruff, Andres Serrano, and others. Through the use of expansive scale, digital manipulation, collage, the incorporation of unconventional materials, and, often, brilliant uses of color, these photographers challenge the limits of “truth” in contemporary photography.
