Known for combining the mythical with the modern, Dimitri Hadzi was influenced both by his Greek heritage and by his studies of classical sculpture in Rome and Greece. Thermopylae refers to the site of the epic battle between the Persians and the outmatched Spartans in 480 BC. The work represents the ideal of fighting for one's beliefs despite strong opposition.
