Pair of topiary tigers, 2000

Stainless steel
Princeton University, gift of William Weaver Jr., Class of 1934

Flanking the entrance to Princeton Stadium, these two stainless steel tigers were installed with the intention that ivy would grow through their hollow mesh bodies. Sculptor Ruffin Hobbs sanded the legs in order to create patterns that suggest the stripes of a tiger in the glistening sunlight. The paws are made of valves.
