Several Museum Galleries to Close this Summer due to Construction
Due to necessary roofing work, the museum's upper galleries will be closed from June 16 through September 5, 2008, reopening on September 6, 2008. We encourage you to take this opportunity to visit the museums' galleries located on the lower level, which house our outstanding collections of the arts of Asia and Africa and ancient art of the Americas and the Mediterranean. Please check the museum's Web site for updates. We hope to see you soon and often.
A Picasso for Princeton: First Painting by Artist to Enter Museum's Collection
The Princeton University Art Museum is delighted to announce the acquisition of Pablo Picasso's Tête d'homme et nu assis (Man's Head and Seated Nude) of 1964. The painting, given to the museum by noted collector Gregory P. Callimanopulos, Class of 1957, is the museum's most significant single donation in recent years and the first painting by Picasso to enter the museum's collection.
"The donation of a painting by an artist of Picasso's stature is an extraordinary act of generosity by this distinguished alumnus and collector," said President Shirley M. Tilghman. "Our University community is grateful to Gregory Callimanopulos for enhancing our collections with this important gift, which is certain to command the attention of students, scholars, and visitors alike for years to come."
