What is the scale of the work? Is it large or small?

If the work has people in it:

• What are the people looking at? If there is more than one figure, do they look at each other?
• Is the figure (or are the figures) placed in a setting? If so, what is their relationship to that setting? Do the figures share the space evenly, or does one overpower the other?
• Does it look like the artist captured the people in motion or posed them?

If the painting is a landscape:

• Does anything in the landscape seem to be moving?
• Are there animals or figures in the landscape? What is their relationship to the landscape? Do they fit naturally into the landscape, or are they overpowered by it?
