Sustainability

The much-enlarged footprint of the new Museum, as seen here from Prospect Drive, saves many of the historic trees on the site, including a magisterial dawn redwood

In keeping with Princeton University’s Sustainability Action Plan, the new Museum building will

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions through
    • Minimal south-facing glazing
    • A high-performance exterior envelope
    • High-performance mechanical systems
    • Efficient lighting and controls
    • Utilities converted from steam to hot water
    • Heavy timber carbon offset
  • Reduce water usage: no permanent irrigation
  • Increase the area under enhanced stormwater management
  • Cultivate healthy and resilient habitats: integrate existing Prospect House woodlands
  • Reinforce campus pedestrian and bicycle paths
