Community Event: Camp Meeting Reenactment at SSAAM

Mt. Zion AME Church, 189 Hollow Rd, Skillman, NJ
Saturday, October 12, 2024 @ 12:00 pm

Celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Mt. Zion AME Church in Skillman, NJ, with a lively Camp Meeting reenactment from the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum. Camp Meetings were an important part of religious and social life in the Sourlands from the late 1800s to the 1930s, and SSAAM will re-create one with reenactors in period clothing, live music from local choirs and singers, baked goods and treats, and opportunities to “meet” historical figures from the local African American community.

This is a free, family friendly event. For details, visit the SSAAM event page

This event is cosponsored by the Princeton University Art Museum.
