Collection Publications: Reflections of the Passion (y1955-3252)
Many theologians asserted that Mary shared in her son's suffering. This small panel created probably for a private home or monastic cell, stresses Mary's participation in the Passion. It resembles the Florentine predella panel [y1936-4], but here Mary Magdalene replaces the Virgin, who now stands with Christ in the center of the composition.TheVirgin is shown joining Christ spiritu ally in his suffering, and physically, if not in the tomb, then directly beside it.
