Exquisite Corpse

Born in Paris in 1925, the term "Exquisite Corpse" refers to a form of collective, automatic writing associated with the Surrealist movement. Typically, each person who contributes to an Exquisite Corpse can only see the final word composed by preceding author, leading to absurd juxtapositions and, at the same time, surprisingly coherent results. The name derives from the first text of its kind, which produced the sentence "Le cadavre exquis boira le vin nouveau" ("The exquisite corpse will drink the young wine"). The technique was also adopted by visual artists.
