The Light Inside

Recent visitors to campus this summer have had the chance to see the exterior of the new Museum nearly complete, while highly detailed and expert work continues within and around the building in anticipation of opening to the public next year. Inside the now-familiar external envelope of cast-in-place concrete and stone aggregate fins, the Museum’s galleries, public spaces (including a new restaurant), educational spaces, and staff areas boast the harmony of natural light, wood, and stone that will enthrall visitors. Creative means of bringing natural light into the building, including through dramatic mass timber beams and floor-to-ceiling light wells, are already demonstrating how they will convey warmth and illumination variably throughout the building.
