Speaker: Maxwell L. Anderson
The Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art
 
Maxwell Anderson joined the Dallas Museum of Art as its director in January 2012.  Since his arrival at the museum, Anderson has introduced a novel program of free membership as well as free admission, and he has created a Laboratory for Innovation, funding online projects to benefit the DMA and museums internationally. Anderson received an A.B. in art history from Dartmouth College (1977) and an A.M. (1978) and a Ph.D. (1981) in art history from Harvard University. He then worked as curator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for six years. Since 1987 he has directed five museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He has served on the faculties of Princeton University and the University of Rome and is the author of dozens of publications, including The Quality Instinct: Seeing Art Through a Museum Director’s Eye.
