Collections and Exhibitions

Chris Newth is the senior associate director for collections and exhibitions at the Princeton University Art Museum. He is responsible for the strategic oversight and implementation of the Museum’s curatorial, collections, and exhibition activities, including exhibition planning and execution, art conservation, collections management, research, and budget planning.  

Newth joined the Museum in 2020 after working for seventeen years at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he began in the European decorative arts and sculpture department and eventually held several roles, including the interim chair of the department for Asia, Oceania, and Africa and chief of curatorial administration. The Museum is the second building project Newth has worked on, having been involved with the creation of the MFA Boston’s new American wing.  

Newth received his BA in medieval studies and classical archaeology from the University of Michigan and his MA in medieval art from Boston University.
