Cubi XIII,

1963

David Smith, 1906–1965, born Decator, IN; died South Shaftsbury, VT; active Bolton Landing, NY
y1969-19
Cubi XIII is part of David Smith's final and most famed series of sculptures. Smith polished the stainless steel so that it would reflect the changing colors of its surroundings, especially when placed outdoors, among trees. Although the burnished surface is constructed of basic geometric shapes, it also reveals a painter's sensibility.
