The Rouge, Study 65, Dearborn, Michigan,

1994, printed 1995

Michael Kenna, born 1953 Widnes, UK; active Seattle, WA
1997-29.65

More Context

Humans are entirely absent from Kenna’s photographs of the Rouge, in striking contrast to the fact that, at its height, 100,000 people worked at the complex every day. Nature, however, appears occasionally, reminding us both of the importance of the natural landscape to other aspects of Kenna’s photographic production and of the endurance of nature even in the most compromised and unpromising of settings.
