Description
A standing robed official holding a long rectangular tablet in front of his face. He wears a stiff angular gauze hat that rises in two tiers and has long horizontal wings attached to the back. This is the portrait of the Northern Song dynasty official Bao Zheng 包拯 (999-1027) based on an image that was kept in the Bao family in Anhui province. The Education Intendent (duxue 督学) of Guangdong, Xu Qi, saw the portrait and had it cut into stone in 1891 (or 1893?).
