Top: 太子少保體仁閣大學士肯任兩廣總督部堂南皮張之洞畫像 Left, lower: 光緒三十四年[1908]歲在戊申春二月摹勒石 “Carved in the 2nd month of spring in the 34th year of the Guangxu reign when Jupiter is in the wushen station.”
Description
Head and shoulder portrait of the official Zhang Zhidong 張之洞 (1837-1909) framed in an oval lunette. Dressed in official robes with a first-rank civil rank badge showing a crane and sun design. The title is written in seal-script calligraphy in two rows across the top. A short inscription at left gives the 1908 as the year when the pictorial stone from which this rubbing was taken was carved.
