The Princeton Line,
2018
Maya Lin, born 1959, Athens, OH; active New York and Colorado
2018-88
The Princeton Line is part of the artist’s series of Earth Drawings, expressive forms articulated by sculpting the landscape. Here, an undulating line of mounded earth winds its way down the gentle slope, creating spaces within its curving form that invite visitors to sit and gather. The title refers to the nearby train line that once crossed this site. As an artist, architect, and environmentalist, Lin aims to enhance visitors’ perception of their surroundings, to challenge our relationship to the natural world, and to create a dialogue between nature and human intervention, activity, and experience.
