Artist Talk: Jane Irish
Photo: Joseph Hu
The artist describes her site-specific installation created for the new Museum.
Hear from Jane Irish, the Philadelphia-based artist whose painting, Cosmos Beyond Atrocity (2024), was one of four works commissioned for the new Museum.
A self-described history painter, Irish searches for inspiration in the work of other artists and creatives, such as poets, musicians, and writers. The preparation for her commissioned work included explorations of the Museum’s collections, examining dozens of objects to source imagery for her painting—on view in the Hans & Donna Sternberg Viewing Room. In this talk, the artist will discuss her creative process and offer an in-depth look at how her commissioned work came to fruition.
Introduced by Alexandra Foradas, the Museum’s curator of modern and contemporary art.
Cosponsored by the Student Advisory Board of the Princeton University Art Museum.
LATE THURSDAYS! The Museum’s Late Thursdays programming is made possible in part by Heather and Paul G. Haaga Jr., Class of 1970.
