Workshop: Porcelain Memory Vessels

Explore the potential of clay as a storytelling medium.
Join interdisciplinary artist, designer, and educator Ryan Stark Lilienthal for this workshop that contemplates clay as a medium for remembrance. When you touch clay, it remembers the impressions you make. Porcelain clay, like glass, adds translucence. Shine a light through thin porcelain pieces and you can illuminate marks within the clay.
Get inspired with a visit to the special exhibition Clay Has Memory: Creative Lineages from Africa, then join Lilienthal—a resident artist at the Takaezu Studio—in the Creativity Labs to make memory vessels with molds derived from those used by the ceramic artist and former Princeton faculty member Toshiko Takaezu.
Participants will need to return to the Museum to pick up their memory vessels after they are fired.
