Contemporary Stories: Revisiting South Asian Narratives
Princeton University Art Museum
Princeton, NJ 08544-1018USA
Featuring major works by five internationally renowned artists, this exhibition explores the continuing power and role of narrative in the art of South Asia. While some of these works directly refer to or reinterpret techniques and stylistic manners found in earlier art, others take inspiration from the symbiotic relationship between text and image in many traditional paintings. Together, they provide a glimpse into the varied ways in which contemporary South Asian artists draw on the past while grounding their work unambiguously in the realities of the twenty-first century.
