Mobile Experience
At the Princeton University Art Museum, we want our visitors to engage with our art. Our visitors have told us one of the reasons that they come to the Museum to get away from their screens – and we want to be a place where our digital experiences supplement those rich in-person interactions with our objects.
With our partner Smartify, we have created a simple mobile web app (no download required) that delivers three basic things for our visitors.
A simple map of the Museum to help you get around the building.
Information on our objects that don't have a printed label. Almost all of our art on view has printed information nearby. In some places, most notably our large "dense display" cases that hold dozens of objects, we haven't been able to provide physical labels. That's where visitors will find QR codes that lead to information on each of those pieces of art.
Information on how an object came into our collections. This is called "provenance" and we encourage visitors to use our mobile app to discover this important (and interesting!) dimension of our objects.
