Night Geometry,

Victoria Morton, Scottish, born 1971
2014-155 a-b
As a child, Morton was fond of music. She learned to play instruments by ear and was part of a music ensemble that toured Germany and played London’s famed Albert Hall. Today, she plays the bass guitar with her band Son of Kong. Morton acknowledges that her formative experiences with music have influenced her artistic output. She believes that paintings, just like music, have nonverbal expressive qualities and resonate on psychological and emotional levels. The painted forms of Night Geometry span two canvases and seem to materialize and dissolve before our eyes, creating a rhythm akin to a nocturne, a musical composition evocative of the night.
