Rothstein is known for his long career as a photojournalist. This image, which he most likely photographed for Parade Magazine, documents an important moment of the "Space Race," the Cold War competition between the United States and the Soviet Union in which each nation strived to outpace the other in the field of space exploration. Rather than rivalry, a moment of reconciliation is captured: astronauts and cosmonauts training in tandem for the implementation of a shared docking station, known as the Apollo-Soyuz project.
