Mario Moore, a Princeton University Hodder Fellow in the visual arts for 2018–19, focused his fellowship year on creating portraits of African American men and women who work at Princeton but are not often recognized, particularly those who care for students, their environment, and their safety. In this etching, Moore captures Valeria Sykes, a member of the Rockefeller-Mathey dining hall staff. Valeria is also featured in Moore’s painting Several Lifetimes, which is on view in the common area of Rockefeller and Mathey Colleges.
