The initials on the verso, J. L., might be those of the dealer Julien Levy, who might have owned the collage soon after it was made. Levy owned other works of the Loplop series. Levy's gallery in New York closed in 1949. After the closing several artists came to be represented by Kirk Askew, former owner of this work.
