This actor print by Hirosada has a cartouche to the left in red white and green reading “Nanokori
No Tachibana 3” (名残りの橘三:名残理之橘三), and is signed simply “Hirosada” (廣貞) at the mid-right over a red seal. In the right-hand corner, right at the edge of the print, is the
publisher’s seal “Kinkadō” (金花堂). To the right of the dancing actor, who holds his dynamic pose on a ground of green and beneath clouds of purple, is a small rectangular red cartouche with the words “sake? de tsuchi” (酒◘でつち) in black. There is a poem or line of dialogue over the actor’s head.
Writings on old mats replaced 7/2005: front “DKZZ MAE-”, “Hirosada (Utagawa) Osaka School”. “ca. 1820-60’s” “Actor Portrait” “#13” “x1991-272” “H.” inside “839.158-a” “85/11-D”
