Palatial halls, pavilions, and terraces are set in a blue-green mountain landscape with a receding river at right. An arched stone bridge spans the river, and a boat appears at lower right. Palace ladies, children, and attendants, including a group playing musical instruments, can be seen inside the buildings. The only adult man in the landscape can be observed crossing a wooden bridge at lower left with his attendant. Might he be the owner of the palace or an honored guest? Mount Li, located near the First Emperor’s mausoleum, is identified in legend as the place where the creator of mankind repaired a hole in the dome of heaven.
