Sky and Mountain,

1973

Hyde Solomon, American, 1911–1982
y1977-66
In 1943, Solomon founded an artist collective called the Jane Street Gallery to promote young abstract painters living in New York, where artists worked together to run the gallery and publicize their work. As a result, Solomon gained recognition for his bright, dramatically colored paintings. From 1959 to 1962 he was an artist-in-residence at Princeton University. Sky and Mountain is inspired by the desert landscape of Taos, New Mexico, where he moved in 1971.
