[Ferargil Galleries, New York (NY), by 1936 [1]]. Acquired by Marion Eppley (1883-1960) and his wife Ethelberta Pyne Russell (d. 1952); inherited by Eppley’s second wife, Constance Rivington Russell Earle (1899-1983) [2]; bequeathed to the Princeton University Art Museum, 1983. [1] In December 1936, Ferargil Galleries lent the painting to the “Exhibition of American Portraiture 1750-1850” at the RISD Museum. See also the labels of the Ferargil Galleries once pasted to the back of the painting. [2] Constance was also the sister of Eppley’s first wife, Ethelberta. After Eppley’s death, Constance married Walter Key Earle.
