Dessert plate depicting a bust of Juno,

1824

Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory, established 1756, France
y755
This plate from a Sèvres porcelain service dates to the reign of Charles X (1824–30), the younger brother of Louis XVI and the first king of the Bourbon Restoration. Its red rim with black ornament is clearly related to the ancient Greek red and black pottery known by early collectors as Etruscan ware. The English porcelain manufactory Wedgwood & Co. had pioneered the reproduction of ancient ceramic forms and decoration. Sèvres then took up the challenge and produced variations on Wedgwood’s models, along with other forms and motifs.
