Zhu Yunming’s calligraphy transcribes two poems by Li Bo (701–762): an account of a perilous mountain journey and a search for supernatural beings. Zhu exploits the expressive potential of the brush in a wild-cursive mode. His swift movements left traces of brush and ink flying across the paper, embodied images that convey both the artist’s bodily energy and the force of his moral character.
