Untitled,

Barbara Bosworth, American, born 1953
2000-21
Bosworth began the series The Bitterroot River in 1995 after the death of her fiancé and at a time when she had started meditating on the strong links memories can form between people and places. She initially photographed only the surface of the Bitterroot River but then expanded the sequence to include other images, such as the one seen here. Of the series of twenty-four photographs, all taken near the Bitterroot River in Montana, she said, "As I made these pictures, my relationship with the landscape and nature intensified. I wanted to hold on to all the life that remained around me, and by securing my world in a photograph I convinced myself it could not totally be taken away."
