Drops of Rain,

Clarence H. White, 1871–1925; born West Carlisle, OH; died Mexico City, Mexico; active Ohio and New York
x1983-940
“Spacing is the very groundwork of Design,” wrote the celebrated art teacher Arthur Wesley Dow in his seminal publication Composition (1899). White embraced the ideas Dow presented in his treatise. For Drops of Rain, he photographed his son Maynard gazing wondrously at a luminous glass orb and cradling it with his hand, as if entranced by its geometric perfection and the symmetry echoed in each tiny drop of rain clinging to the expanse of screen behind.
