Probably Rome, known since the 16th century, when it belonged to the Doni family; ca. 1750 it was sold to Bindo Simone Peruzzi, Florence; in the late 19th century it was sold to the dealer Bardini; in the collection of Thomas Colville, CT; purchased by the Museum from Acanthus, New York in 1996.
