Description
Teapot with a cylindrical body and spout. On the shoulder in line with the spout are two raised tabs with two perforations for the metal handles; crosswise on opposite sides of the shoulder are two raised dots. On one side of the body is the design of two flags of the Republic. The red flag with a black nine-pointed star and 18 yellow disks (representing the 18 provinces) comes from the flag used during the battle for Wuhan on 10 October 1911. This became the "War Flag" used by the army, and was designed by Chen Lei and the Zhao brothers, three students at Wuhan at the time. The other flag combines the War Flag with five horizontal color bands (from top to bottom, red [Han], yellow [Manchus], blue [Mongols], white [Hui], and black [Tibetan]). This was the national flag from 1912–1928, and represents the "five races under one union" (五族共和) Above the flags is written four characters Zhonghua minguo 中華民國 (Republic of China). On the other side of the body is an eighteen character inscription signed by the artist and dated 1912. There are also four characters of the shoulder ( [ ] [ ] 子孫 ); four characters on the lid ( [ ] 清味永 ). On the bottom is a red square relief seal. Circular lid with central knob with three petal-like struts and steam hole near the knob.
