Adam Fuss, British, born 1961
2008-61
Untitled is a unique color positive print, created (without a camera or negative) by the direct action of a moving beam of light on photographic printing paper. In a darkened room, Fuss laid down a sheet of paper and set in motion a flashlight hanging above it. The light’s pendulum-like motion, momentum, and ultimate stasis are documented in the resulting image. Employing the foundational techniques and the essential elements—light and water—of chemical photography, Fuss creates compellingly contemporary abstractions.
