a. 大魏孝昌二 年歲在丙午 六月戊辰朔 十六日癸未清 信士佛 弟子駱 道明敬造石 像一區,上為 七世父母,生緣 眷屬,普同福 慶愿如是 Draft translation: “On the 16th or guiwei day, 6th month the first day of which was wuchen, in the 2nd year of the Great Wei Xiaochang reign when Jupiter was positioned in the bingwu station, I, the pure male devotee and Buddhist disciple Luo Daoming, respectfully made this stone image [of the Buddha], at the highest level for the sake of parents going back seven generations [or parents of the past seven lives?], for the lives and destiny of relatives, and may it be so that blessedness and felicity extend widely and equally. Reading notes: 1. 清信士 is like 優婆塞 (Skt: Upāsaka), meaning attendant. b. 孫保失鄉,播越, 歷載,終始冥愆,未及免之, 不幸早死,今為保造像一 區,使永脱百苦。 魏北海王國太妃高為孙保造。 Draft translation: “Grandson Bao can no longer return and wanders homeless. For years, all his life there was dark faults [illness?] that he could not avoid, and unfortunately died early. Now I made a statue for Bao to allow him to forever escape suffering. Made for grandson Bao by Lady Gao, mother of the prince of Beihai [Yuan Xiang 元詳] of the Wei dynasty.”
