Description
At right is a portrait of the poet Meng Haoran 孟浩然 (689-740) of the Tang dynasty, who was also known as Meng Xiangyang. He walks with his hands held in front in a long-sleeved robe. Following behind him is a young attendant carrying a bamboo staff and leading a saddled donkey. A tall pine tree at right overhangs the two travelers. The image is said to be in the brush manner of painter, poet, and politician Wang Wei. At left are transcriptions of poems about Meng Haoran by Wang Wei and Li Bai 李白 (701-762), followed by a 1602 poetic inscription by Sun Wenlong commemorating repairs to a pavilion dedicated to Meng Haoran.
