Summary:
The Zhaoling 昭陵 mausoleum of Emperor Taizong by the Li 醴river is an area of lamentation. A passerby is fortunate if they can get a rubbing of the Six Steeds (六駿) reliefs that capture the virtuous spirit of worthy officials. Around the mausoleum are buried the tombs of 14 meritorious officials along with memorials for two plus one other. Fan Wenguang wrote the inscription and following had an old portrait of Taizong carved in stone. “On the 15th day, 6th month in summer, in the renshen cyclical year or 5th year of the Chongzhen reign in the Ming dynasty, Fan Wenguan, [styled] Zhong’an, of Neijiang, Sichuan, recorded and wrote.”
