Description
Seated figure of the Ming dynasty official and writer Qiu Jun 丘濬 (or 邱濬; 1421-1495) holding a tablet. He sits in a chair wearing robes with decorated borders on the lapels and sleeves. On his head he wears a “ridged guan” (liang guan 梁冠) hat, which was standard court attire for civil servants across most dynasties. According to the Ming text Sancai tuhui 三才圖會, it is squarish, with the front lower than the back, tilting slightly backwards, has an enclosing edge, with an open front and a closed back. The six ridges indicate a Second Rank. Behind the figure the background remains white, and a horizontal band at top is inscribed with an 1837 inscription by Dong Guohua that is written in clerical-script calligraphy.
