Right, title: 放翁先生遺像 Right, bottom Lu Wenjie 陸文杰 (late Qing dynasty) [transcription follows Yu Aihao, see Comparanda] 一龕配享少陵祠，遺像鎸成供奉宜。 此日瓣香新俎豆，當年团扇舊豐姿。 醉酣霜葉千鐘酒，笑咏梅花萬首詩。 好為草堂添故事，稱觴人拜歲寒時。 Rubbing seals: “Fangweng ershiyi shisun” 放翁二十一世孙, rect. intaglio “Shang xian qian gu” 上下千古 , sq. relief Left, bottom Lu Wenjie 陸文杰 (late Qing dynasty) [transcription follows Yu Aihao, see Comparanda] 此二十一代祖務觀公遺像也，江蘇王君之佐刻《笠屐图》供“思陸龕”中。文杰補官震澤丞時，曾以拓本見貽。藏之行箧，日久失去。今晤趙君桂生于成都，亦有是拓。前謁少陵祠，見公配享在側，少陵有塑刻諸像，而公獨無，意殊歉然。喜得此本，属楊君子靈重摹镌石，于公生辰供奉草堂，并志一律，較之“思陸龛”，似更親切耳。 道光壬寅[1842]冬日裔孙文杰謹識。 “This is a portrait of the ancestor Wuguan [i.e., Lu You, zi: Wuguan] from 21 generations ago. Wang Zhizuo of Jiangsu carved a [picture of “Su Shi Wearing a] Bamboo Hat and Clogs” and offered it to the Si Lu Kan niche/shrine. When [I, Lu] Wenjie was filling in as the Aide of Zhenze, a rubbing [of this portrait of Lu You] was presented and given to me. I stored it in a traveling case but over time it was lost. Today I understand that Zhao Guisheng in Chengdu also has this rubbing. When I had gone to pay my respects at the Shaoling Si shrine, I saw the lord [Lu You] being worshiped to the side. Shaolin [i.e., the poet Du Fu] had a carved statue as well as various portraits, but lord [Lu You] did not. . . . I desired this [portrait] and entrusted Yang Ziling to recopy and carve it into stone, and at the time of the lord [Lu You’s] birthday, gave it the [Du Fu] Cottage with a [seven-syllable] regulated verse poem comparing it to the Si Lu Kan shrine, only to make it more intimate. In winter of the renyin cyclical year of the Daoguang reign, respectfully recorded by the descendant Wenjie.” [draft translation]

Robed man wearing a tall cloth hat sits on a flat-topped rock with a case of books to his right. This is the portrait of Lu You 陸游 (1125-1210), a poet during the Southern Song dynasty. The poem and inscription are by his descendant Lu Wenjie who records that Yang Ziling recopied the portrait and carved it into stone in 1842 and he gave it to the Du Fu Cottage in Chengdu, Sichuan. Three patches of damage to the stone appear on the upper left half of the rubbing. The actual pictorial stone from which this rubbing was taken is now still housed in the Du Fu Cottage complex inside the Gongbu Si 工部祠 shrine hall. The surface of the stone has received significant further damage since the time this rubbing was made.
