More Context

By Parties Unknown, from the same series as Relics, on view nearby, depicts a limp body lying lifeless on the outdoor porch of a building. With the face obscured, this person is reduced to an anonymous Black man with a rope around his neck. The double doors remain shut, denying access to what lies beyond them. Thus, Woodruff emphasizes the otherness and social isolation that Black citizens face, as well as the violence that they must endure as they struggle to attain equality.

Chelsea A.
