The two-thousand-acre Ford Rouge Complex in Dearborn, Michigan, was once a symbol of American industrial might, serving as a model for vertical integration in automobile manufacturing. After the company decentralized in the 1960s, production slowed down and the Rouge facility, which once had its own fire department, police force, and hospital, was downsized. Kenna documented the complex in a series of 120 photographs utilizing natural light and long exposures. Here the atmospheric lighting effects present the industrial landscape as both alive and dying, a dynamic factory and an artifact.
