Description
In this simple but dramatic painting, Ōkyo painted probably with a broad, flat brush to render clouds, wind, and rain in ink wash. The bending willow trees on the lower-right convey a real sense of strong wind. The signature on the lower-right corner is in a cursive calligraphy style, unusual but not unseen among his works, fits the rough painting style quite well. The cursive style signature also suggests this is one of Ōkyo’s later works, done around 1790s.
