According to a note in the Accession Card the drawing was acquired by Platt from Holoway in 1929 as by John Flaxman.

P. W. Holoway was a Fine Art Dealer and Specialist Restorer of Prints, Drawings, etc. based at 336B King's Road, Chelsea, London SW3.

According to a research note in the object file, it was John Christian that first recognized, in the 1970s, that the drawing is by Charles Fairfax Murray and not by Edward Burne-Jones.
