Village steeple of Éragny-sur-Epte,

1895

Camille Pissarro, 1830–1903; born Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, died Paris, France
x1948-467
A decade older than Monet, Sisley, and Cézanne, Pissarro was the only painter to have shown in all eight Impressionist exhibitions between 1874 and 1886. In 1884 he moved with his family from the suburbs of Paris to the picturesque village of Éragany, on the banks of the River Epte, Normandy. There, he immersed himself in the daily life of the local farming community, which became the primary subject of his paintings, drawings, and prints throughout the rest of his life.
